There’s a debate raging online about the pronunciation of pop punk band Blink-182’s name
Now, it always seemed very clear. The numbers are one, eight and two. One, eight, two. 182. Easy.
Not so. Thanks to America’s cultural imperialism, we’ve known for a long time that fans on that side of the big wet pond pronounce it ‘Blink One Eighty Two’, which is absurd, of course.
However, a writer on The Late Late Show with James Corden recently discovered that we Brits pronounce it ‘Blink One Eight Two’, which was something of a revelation for folks in America.

And of course, that sparked a huge discussion, as shocked Americans went up against perplexed Brits. We’ll spare you the endless tweets of people saying the same things, but this was the gist of it.
What?! What do you lot call them?

You’re wrong

Actually, that’s kind of the gist of most online arguments. “Here is a thing.” “This thing is wrong!” “You are wrong!” “FIGHT ME.”
Then we had some turncoat Brits betraying the Queen with their opinions.
I’m British and I say one eighty two.

I’m Scottish and I call them One Eighty-two!!!!!

Then the heavyweights came out. James Corden, host of The Late Late Show with James Corden, jumped in with his thoughts.
Don’t start this. I admit we are wrong on this. America calls them Blink One eighty two. Which is also wrong. They technically should be called Blink one hundred and eighty two. Don’t take some moral high ground here. https://t.co/zm2Gpb6xtT

THEN Blink-182 singer and bassist Mark Hoppus brought up an important point.

THEN former guitarist and singer Tom DeLonge gave the final word.
It’s actually— Blink eighteen-two. People have all gotten this wrong for years. Sometimes this can happen with very complex, thoughtful and elevated art. https://t.co/jmsfv401KF

So that’s the end of that. Once again, everyone is wrong.
