Razzie awards make massive U-Turn on Bruce Willis nomination

A classy touch and the right thing to do

The Razzies have rescinded Bruce Willis‘ award for his 2021 movie, Cosmic Sin, following his aphasia diagnosis.

Co-founders John JB Wilson and Mo Murphy said in a statement on Thursday that Willis’ tongue-in-cheek accolade will be nullified after having learned of the 67-year-old’s medical disorder.

In a statement the co-founders said the decision was made after “much thought and consideration”.

It went on to say:  “If someone’s medical condition is a factor in their decision making and/or their performance, we acknowledge that it is not appropriate to give them a Razzie.”

The statement also noted that “extenuating circumstances” also apply to Shelley Duvall in The Shining, and as result, that award is also being dropped.

“We have since discovered that Duvall’s performance was impacted by Stanley Kubrick’s treatment of her throughout the production. We would like to take this opportunity to rescind that nomination as well.”

The Golden Rasberry Awards (more commonly known as the Razzies) are satirical underachievement given to films and performances as seen as the worst in the business each year.

News of Willis’ declining health broke earlier this week after his ex-wife Demi Moore revealed he was set to retire. An article in the LA Times went on to describe in detail a number of incidents explaining the actor’s struggles on and off-set, including having his lines shortened and fed to him through an earpiece.

One particular instance, revealed by Willis’ Hard Kill co-star Lala Kent, saw the actor accidentally shoot her with a prop gun during production.

In her statement on Instagram Moore said Willis would be retiring from a career that “has meant so much to him”.
