If you’ve ever wondered what your monthly Netflix subscription fee gets you, this is it.
The American streaming giants have become so synonymous with great original programming that attaching the name Netflix to a new show is enough to make us want to watch it.
We always knew that producing hit shows like Master of None and Orange is the New Black doesn’t come cheap, but we didn’t expect it to be this outlandish.
According to business experts at Bloomberg, Netflix are due to spend nearly $5bn (£3.5bn) on orignal programming this year.
That’s more than HBO’s parent company Time Warner, who produce blockbuster series Game of Thrones and True Detective, who are second on the list with a projected $4.5bn (£3.15bn).
All in all, this adds up to a spending arms race which will surely give us even more brilliant shows to enjoy.
