Rick and Morty writer teases details about Season 3

Paul Moore

I’m Mr. Meeseeks, look at me!

Given that we’re still in utter awe of Dan Harmon for pulling off the greatest April Fools joke of all time by releasing the first episode of Rick and Morty Season 3 early, we’ve barely caught our breath after seeing the most daring escape from an intergalactic federal prison.

He’s a spy, blow him up, I’m going to go take a shit. Vintage Rick.

To be fair, Rick C-137 is a busy man because he’s still searching for that Szechuan sauce but as Morty said “If you think My Rick’s dead, he’s alive, and if you think you’re safe, he’s coming for you.”

That line still makes us feel Schwifty.

As Rick says in the final scene: “We’ve got adventures to go on, Morty — just you and me — and sometimes your sister and sometimes your mom, but never your dad. You want to know why, Morty? Because he crossed me. Oh, it gets darker, Morty. Welcome to the darkest year of our adventures.”

We can’t wait to see what this involves and writer Ryan Ridley has given a few details about what fans of the show can expect in the upcoming episodes.

Speaking on the Y Combinator, Ridley said: “What I  like about the show is that people seem to be invested in the reality of the show. People are wondering about certain characters, when are they coming back, what’s happening with them. The fact that people still care about characters that were introduced back in Season 1 and ideas – like the ‘eye-patch/evil Morty’ – in Season 3 , I think we stay true to the idea that the world is real. There are consequences.”

He adds : “At the same time, we’re going to have lots of one-off things, but there are consequences. I mean, you saw in the first episode of Season 3 that Jerry and Beth get divorced – that plays out throughout the season. Some of the stuff that you’ve already seen is going to play out more in Season 3.

Mmm, he mentioned returning characters and other things that we might have already seen from the Season 3 opener.

Are we going to learn more about Bird Phoenix Person, Rick’s tragic past, Tammy’s evil ways, or the destruction of the Council of Ricks?

It’s very likely that Jerry will still be featuring, but the line about returning characters intrigues us. Could this suggest a return for the likes of Mr. Poopybutthole, Evil Morty, Scary Terry or Squanchy?

Truth be told, we really hope that this hero makes a return.
