‘New mask, same task’
Robert Downey Jr. who was famous for his portrayal of Iron Man until his character’s demise in Avengers: Endgame, will return to the franchise.
It has been announced that the 59-year-old will play notorious Victor Von Doom, also known as Dr Doom.
The announcement was made at the much-anticipated Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars announcement at Comic Con on Saturday.
Marvel boss Kevin Feige shared on stage that Anthony and Joe Russo are back in the director’s chairs for Doomsday.
In a theatrical moment, which saw over 20 individuals donned in olive green robes and masks gathered on stage, Joe Russo spoke of the complexity of bringing Victor Von Doom to life.
He said: “If we’re going to bring Victor Von Doom to the screen – he is one of the more complex characters in all of comics… this is potentially one of the more entertaining characters in all of fiction.”
He added: “If we’re going to do this… then we are going to need the greatest actor in the world.
“As proof of the unimaginable possibilities of the Marvel Universe, we give you the one person who could play Victor von Doom.”
To the surprise of those present, Downey emerged in a striking green ensemble and unveiled himself.
As the crowd went wild, he joked: “New mask, same task. What did I tell ya? I like playing complicated characters.”
