Rotten Tomatoes have revealed the ten best reviewed movies that came out in 2020.
Yes, we’re well into March now, but the reviewers over at Rotten Tomatoes take their scoring system very seriously.
And obviously, with the year that was 2020, they decided to extend the time restrictions for 2020 releases before announcing their Golden Tomato Awards.
The rules for winning one of the top spots are as follows:
“In order to qualify for a Golden Tomato Award, a movie must have been released in the United States between January 1, 2020 and February 28 2021, and it must have at least 40 reviews. All eligible seasons and TV movies must have premiered in the 2020 calendar year, and have a minimum of 20 reviews from different critics for the season or it’s episodes. All contenders need to have at least 5 reviews by Top Critics.”

1. Portrait of a Lady on Fire
On an isolated island in Brittany at the end of the eighteenth century, a female painter (Noemie Merlant) is obliged to paint a wedding portrait of a young woman (Adele Haenel).

2. One Night in Miami

3. Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom
During a recording session, tensions rise between Ma Rainey (Viola Davis), her ambitious horn player (Chadwick Boseman) and the white management determined to control the uncontrollable “Mother of the Blues”.

9. Hamilton
The real life of one of America’s foremost founding fathers and first Secretary of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton (Lin-Manuel Miranda). Captured live on Broadway from the Richard Rodgers Theatre with the original Broadway cast.

10. Judas and the Black Messiah
