The next star of The Sinner has been found.
The highly acclaimed Netflix drama will be returning later this summer – but, until this point, many had been wondering who would be following Jessica Biel’s footsteps.
Of course, the first season was fairly definitive in its story arc but Season 2 is taking a different approach.
According to Variety, Fargo and Avengers: Infinity War actress Carrie Coon will be joining the second season and she’ll be playing a mysterious woman named Vera.
Her character is described as “a formidable, mysterious woman who struggles between upholding the ideals of the community she leads and fulfilling her own desires.”
Natalie Paul and Hannah Gross will also be joining the cast. Paul will play Heather, a detective in training. Gross will play Marin, Heather’s best friend from high school.
Of course, Jessica Biel starred as Cora Tannetti in the first season, which was adapted from a best-selling novel from crime author Petra Hammesfahr.
The eight-part series followed the mystery surrounding a young mum, played by Biel, after she kills a stranger in public – and then claims she didn’t know what sparked her to commit the violent crime.
While Biel will not be returning in the role of Tannetti in the second season, she will be coming back as an executive producer.
It has also been confirmed that Detective Harry Ambrose, played by Bill Pullman, will be coming back for season two.
A synopsis for the season states: “In the wake of the Cora Tannetti case, Detective Harry Ambrose is called back to his hometown in distant rural New York to assess a disturbing new crime: an 11-year-old boy’s horrific double-homicide & his seemingly inexplicable motive.
“As Ambrose comes to realise there’s nothing ordinary about the boy or where he came from, his investigation leads him straight into the hidden darkness of his hometown and pitting him against those who’ll stop at nothing to protect its secrets.”
