The most expensive Netflix show ever is now available to view

That's a lot of dosh

This looks incredible.

As well a library of established fan favourites, Netflix has given us some truly exceptional original content over the last few years. House Of Cards, Orange Is The New Black, Narcos, Stranger Things, Master Of None, Bojack Horseman, Making A Murderer – the list is as varied as it is impressive.

They’ve also churned out a few Adam Sandler films but we’ll forgive them for that.

But their new series – fresh out on Friday – could top them all. There are high hopes within Netflix that The Get Down could be their best production yet. And when you’ve got such impressive names as Baz Luhrmann, Nas and Grandmaster Flash involved, you know something special is in the works.

The Get Down is over two-and-a-half years in the making, and is easily the streaming site’s most expensive show to date. The original budget was around $7.5m (£5.7m) per episode, but the 12-part series has ended up costing a whopping $120m (£91m). Part I (episodes 1-6) is available now, with Part II to follow.

Put together by Romeo+Juliet and The Great Gatsby director Baz Luhrmann alongside collaborators including Nas and Grandmaster Flash, it documents the last days of disco and the rise of hip-hop in 70s New York.

It has all the right people on board, and the trailer below suggests we’re in for a treat.
