“You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!”
Sir Michael Caine, known for decades of incredible on-screen performances, has said that although he hasn’t retired, work offers are drying up.
At 88-years-old, Michael Caine has played just about every role imaginable. From spies to criminals, Caine has been a staple in enormous blockbusters for over five decades. But now he has said work offers have dried up, reports the Telegraph.
The actor said that although he has not received offers in a few years, he stated that, “Nobody’s been making any movies that I want to do, but also I’m 88. There’s not exactly scripts pouring out with a leading man who’s 88.”
“I haven’t worked for two years, I have a spine problem which means I can’t walk very well,” he said on BBC Radio 5 Live.
He continued: “I also wrote a couple of books which were published and were successful. I’m now not an actor, I’m a writer. Which is lovely because as an actor you have to get up at half past six in the morning and go to the studio.
“As a writer you can start writing without leaving the bed.”
To address the rumours of his acting demise, the Batman actor tweeted: “I haven’t retired and not a lot of people know that.”

Piers Morgan replied to the tweet, dubbing it ‘brilliant’ alongside two laughing emojis.
“One of my greatest joys was working with Michael Caine on Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,” tweeted fellow acting veteren Steve Martin.
“Regarding retirement, I’ve spent over 50 years getting up at 6am to make movies, and I’m not getting rid of my alarm clock!” he told Variety.
