Set your reminders
When Denzel Washington won the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2016 Golden Globes, his Philadelphia co-star Tom Hanks really said it best during his introduction speech.
“Every generation of filmgoers finds him, or her, the artist that defines the times we live in. As their credits are added to IMDB, so too is the power of their persona and their personal tastes, their learned craft, their instinctive talent, and their ability to not only hold our attention, but demand it,” said Hanks.
He adds: “Every role and every choice is worthy of our study. You cannot copy them, you can at best, sort of emulate them. It’s odd how these immortals of the silver screen only need one name to conjure the gestalt of their great artistry.
“For women, it’s names like Garbo, Hepburn, Stanwyck, Loren. For men, it’s Bogart, Cagney, Gable. A solo tag is the norm, Brando, McQueen, DeNiro, Poitier. This list is finite, the club is exclusive but it includes Denzel Washington. A single name can define an artist who is a peer and equal of all of the greatest legends of our craft. If Washington doesn’t ring out loud enough, then let the first name carry all the weight and that name is… Denzel.”
Without a doubt, Denzel Washington is one of – if not the – finest actor alive. There is nobody that can command the screen quite like the two-time Academy Award winner.
There’s a level of integrity, power and respect that defines Washington’s work and with The Equalizer 2 set to be released, Sky will be launching a Denzel Washington marathon, which features some of his best films and performances.
Starting on Friday, 17 August, film fans will be able to see the likes of Remember the Titans, American Gangster, Fences, Inside Man, The Equalizer, Unstoppable, Antwone Fisher, Safe House, Flight, The Bone Collector, The Manchurian Candidate and The Taking of Pelham 123.
To paraphrase the great man, we guarantee that you won’t be disappointed.
