It seems as if no Drake idea is original anymore.
Apparently Drizzy Drake is up to his old tricks again. Although instead of ghostwriting accusations he’s now being accused of stealing some cover art for his most recent release, Scary Hours.
The Toronto rapper broke the internet Friday night when out of nowhere he decided to drop off a new two-track EP. Featuring the highly-anticipated “God’s Plan”, a song fans have known about for a little while, and the part-ode to Cam’ron’s Dipset clique, “Diplomatic Immunity”, it was a nice treat for fans of the Views rapper. But while it was a pleasant surprise for most, a producer by the name of Rabit felt otherwise.
Accusing Drake of stealing the cover art for the Scary Hours EP from one of his 2015 Communion tour posters, the artwork in question was designed by Collin Fletcher who is a longtime collaborator of Rabit.
“Today I wake up to see OVO has redone one of my tour posters designed by Collin Fletcher for Drake’s new single. Poor Collin is always having his style stolen. Lol. But I love being part of a team that’s so creative and iconic,” Rabit wrote in a caption on Instagram underneath an image depicting both pieces of art for comparison.
Collin Fletcher later gave a statement to Pitchfork about Drake’s potential theft:
“This is a story that too many artists, musicians, and designers identify with. Hopefully this results in a larger conversation about popular culture’s relationship to underground artists.”
Drake nor his team have issued any statements at this point.
