Any of these options would make for a very different show.
Yesterday, we found out that Mel and Sue will not be returning to The Great British Bake Off next series. It’s been less than 24 hours since the news broke that they were quitting but some names are already being suggested to be their possible replacements.
After the BBC failed to secure the rights to the show, the production company behind the series, Love Productions, went with the highest bidder which was Channel 4.
With this decision being made, Mel (Giedroyc) and Sue (Perkins) decided to step down saying, “We were very shocked and saddened to learn yesterday evening that Bake Off will be moving from its home. We made no secret of our desire for the show to remain where it was.”
Since then Love Productions released this statement, “We would like to thank Mel and Sue for bringing their own unique humour to the tent over the past years and we respect their decision not to be part of the Bake Off team on Channel 4.”
And now Digital Spy are already throwing out some possible replacements for the hosting role, including some pretty huge names.
They’ve mentioned Alan Carr, Jon Snow and Anna Richardson.
Anna Richardson would be an interesting choice. She already works closely with Channel 4 on shows such as The Sex Education Show, Supersize vs Superskinny, You Are What You Eat and Secret Eaters.
She also happens to be Sue Perkins’ other half.
As Carr and Snow, either one of the news anchor or chatty man would change the tone of the programme drastically.
