The spin-off is coming but there’s even more Sons of Anarchy being planned.
Following the recent first look at Mayans MC, Sons of Anarchy fans are eagerly anticipating what the new show has in store but this spin-off might just be the start of a whole new wave of SOA TV shows.
During an interview with Tom Arnold, Kurt Sutter, the creator of Sons of Anarchy, revealed that he envisions the show as âfour chaptersâ with the seven seasons of Sons of Anarchy being the first one. Mayans MC represents chapter two and if that show is a success, we could be seeing the story of Jax’s family continuing with a prequel and sequel seasons.
âI have a sense of âSonsâ being four chapters. If âSonsâ was the first chapter then I see the Mayans as the second chapter. Itâs present day, itâs after the death of Jax Teller,â Sutter said when talking about the new show.
Sutter also revealed that Mayans MC would deal with the last events in Sons of Anarchy, including Jax Tellerâs actions, which left a large body count before he exited in the finale.
âWeâre going to play the reality of that last day and the events that happened with who he killed that day and the impact and perhaps the trickle down that may have had on Northern Cali. So it wonât have a direct impact on the Mayans but we make reference to it in the pilot so that we play the reality of it,â Sutter said.
Speaking of Jax, Sutter also said that a potential third chapter would be the prequel that has previously been teased in the show.
We’ve frequently been told that after Jax Tellerâs father returned home from Vietnam, he was one of the founding members of the motorcycle club.
Sutter says that the prequel would explore Tellerâs journey back from Vietnam and the creation of the Sons of Anarchy.
âI think at some point weâll find a way to shine a little light on perhaps on John Tellerâs manuscript, if the Mayans, if weâre lucky enough to continue and then what I would do is not directly but I would use that as a potential launching point to do the prequel. The First 9 â it would begin in Vietnam with John Teller and Piney Winston and it would be about them coming back to America and ideally to do each episode have a new member join but end it at the end of that so that maybe at that point Gemmaâs there but itâs before Jax is born. I donât want to step on the mythology that we know but we kind of lay track to the beginning and then stop,” he said.
Jax’s story isn’t done yet because there’s also some talk about a direct sequel to SOA – provided there’s still enough demand for it.
Sutter says that a sequel would revolve around Jax Tellerâs sons, Abel and Thomas, after they discover who their father was and what he did during his life.
âPerhaps thinking ahead at some point, if any of us are still alive, that there might be a series of events that takes us down the line into the future that perhaps sets up some kind of dynamic for Jaxâs sons to become aware of who his dad was and things like that. That for me is the dream quartet if you will,” Sutter said.
