Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer gives us even more familiar faces

Danny Jones

With great trailer comes great excitability

The final trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home has dropped at long last and while we have no idea the extent of the sheer multiverse madness that is about to ensue, it has confirmed some very big details.

We covered the first teaser trailer a couple of months back and already lost our minds at seeing the Green Goblin‘s pumpkin bombs roll into frame, not to mention full confirmation of Alfred Molina‘s return as Doctor Octopus. We weren’t ready for all this:

Absolutely sick. As you can see, not only do we have more shots of Doc Ock grappling with a friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man he isn’t familiar with, but we definitely hear Willem Dafoe’s speaking as Green Goblin. However, it doesn’t stop there…

Doctor Strange explains that there have been “visitors” to their timeline ever since Peter interfered with his spell and, as such, it looks like we’re also going to be treated to multiple Spider-Man villains from all over the somewhat messy Sony universe – well,  it was until now. The multiverse narrative is a convenient solution, it has to be said.

You can clearly see that Jamie Foxx has returned as Electro from The Amazing Spiderman 2 and we also catch a glimpse of both Lizard from the first film, not to mention Sandman from the third and final film in Sam Raimi’s original trilogy. Could this mean that we also the likes Venom pop up somehow? And, who knows, maybe a few more familiar faces?…

The official Spider-Man account teased the final trailer yesterday, showing cast members Jacob Batalon (Ned), Zendaya (MJ) and Spidey himself, Tom Holland, watching the trailer. It’s now pretty easy to understand why looked so genuinely stoked.

With all these villains returning from past movies outside of the MCU proper, it’s fair to say that the long-running rumour that all we all desperately want to believe could be true: we could really be seeing Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield reprise their roles of the web-slinging superhero once more.

I mean, why not? If their adversaries are popping up left right and centre for what looks to be as close to a take on the ‘Sinister Six‘ as we’ll get in this timeline, we can’t see a reason why the Spidey’s they faced in their realities can’t come along for the ride.

Holland has played down the rumours on multiple occasions but although this trailer gives us plenty of detail already, they were hardly going to spoil the biggest surprise if they are in it. So, for now, I guess we’ll just have to wait on tenterhooks for another month.

While the likes of Eternals, Thor: Love and Thunder, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and so many more in the Marvel slate for ‘Phase Four’ promise big things, this third entry in the Spider-Man trilogy genuinely has the potential to reach the heights of the Avengers movies.

There really is no love quite like the kind that people have for this character, this IP and, looking at the bigger picture, what he promises for the future of the MCU following (spoiler, I guess) the death of Iron Man in the conclusion to Endgame. Just look at the people that came out to watch the trailer drop:

They were even treated to a special appearance from Holland himself. Classy touch, Tom.

Spider-Man: No Way Home drops two days early in the UK on December 15th, so you’ll have to get swinging to cinema screens quickly if you want to grab tickets before they go.
