John Boyega has been teasing details
In Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Daisy Ridley’s Rey and John Boyega’s Finn went on separate adventures but it looks like the duo are set to reunite in the next episode.
The director of The Force Awakens, J.J. Abrams, is stepping behind the lens again and we’re very curious to see where Rey’s newly harnassed Jedi powers will take her – a final encounter with Kylo Ren seems destined to happen.
As for Finn, he’s already said goodbye to his biggest nemesis – the alternate version of Captain Phasma’s demise is an interesting watch – but we expect the reformed Stormtrooper to rise up in the ranks of The Resistance.
Boyega was a guest at AwesomeCon over the weekend and he said: “I haven’t read the script for Episode 9. But Daisy did shoot me a text saying, ‘Oh my gosh, I just heard from JJ (Abrams), and we’re back together. That’s what I’m really excited about, is Finn and Rey back together again.”
In typical Star Wars tradition, the final chapter of this new trilogy looks set to be action-packed and while we’ve got supreme faith in Abrams to deliver a gripping conclusion to this new trilogy, we want to make one thing clear. Please J.J., no Ewoks like Return of the Jedi.
“I think it’s going to be all-out war in this final chapter, so we need to be prepared,” said Boyega.
With Abrams back directing, having co-written the script with Chris Terrio, Star Wars Episode IX is due to start filming this year, with its release already set for 20 December, 2019. As for the next adventure in the galaxy that’s far, far away, Solo: A Star Wars Story is released on May 24th.
