Stranger Things 3 confirmed for summer 2019 release date

Ready to head back to the Upside Down?

Last week, we got the first trailer for Stranger Things 3 (Why does Stranger Things get to have just  numerical number after it like a movie, but for every other show, we say ‘season 3’? Anyway…).

All it really told us was that  Steve is still very much a part of the Stranger Things story going into Season 3, but so far, that is all we know. Well, that and the fact that Hawkins, Indiana is about to get their very own super shopping mall, as the trailer was really just a faux-promo video for a new mall opening in the town.

That trailer signs off by saying the mall is “coming next summer.” That seemed to indicate that the next season would be coming mid 2019, but it could have just been referring to the mall opening in 1985.

Netflix have now confirmed that season 3 will be coming next summer. This actually means the show is delayed – both Stranger Thingses 1 and 2 were released in in the Autumn, in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

Speaking at the Television Critics Association’s press tour in Beverly Hills on Sunday, Netflix programming executive Cindy Holland explained the delay.

“It’s a handcrafted show,” she said. “[Creators] The Duffer Brothers and Shawn Levy, they understand the stakes are high. They want to deliver something bigger and better than last year. I think it’s going to be a fantastic season. It will be worth the wait.”

“It’s a really exciting season, just takes a little more time,” Holland continued, referring to more special effects being included in the third season.
