Stranger Things star discusses cocaine possession reports

Paul Moore

The actor was denied entry into the US after trace amounts of cocaine were found in his possession.

Stranger Things actor Charlie Heaton has spoken about the “f**king awful” media frenzy that followed the incident where he was denied entry into the United States after trace amounts of cocaine were found in his luggage.

After landing at Los Angeles International Airport in October,  a customs canine sniffed Heaton’s luggage and officers found a small amount of cocaine.

The Yorkshire-born star subsequently missed the premiere of the second season of Stranger Things and returned to London. He wasn’t arrested and no charges were filed.

In an interview with Flaunt Magazine, the actor was very candid when talking about this incident.

“It was f**king awful. It was just awful. It was hard. Everything happened so fast, and I hadn’t come to terms with the fact that I was famous. When something steps in from the work you are doing and breaks into your personal life…you feel kind of vulnerable. All of a sudden it becomes a very big story and it gets really blown out of proportion,” he said.

Discussing the fact that members of the media arrived on his doorstep as well as at his parent’s home in Yorkshire, Heaton said that this was “hard” and “upsetting” for them to deal with. “At the end of the day, I just wanted to go back. I want to work and continue to work—that’s all I’ve ever done,” he adds.

Regarding the production of Season 3 of Stranger Things, the actor says that there’s no issue regarding his eligibility to work in the US.

“Yeah, it’s all sorted now. We go back in April so I plan to go back to America next month, and yes, I can go back,” he said.
