Reports suggest the show could be returning.
Line of Duty writers have apparently ‘drawn up plans for a seventh series’ of the hit police drama.
According to the Daily Star, an insider for the show said: “Another series is happening. This is the news millions of fans have been hoping for.”
They added: “A lot of stuff still needs to be agreed and it is likely to take a while. Fans will probably have to wait a few years before it airs on TV.”
The paper reports that the decision comes after a number of top-secret meetings between the show’s bosses.
The show’s three ever-presents, Adrian Dunbar, Vicky McClure and Martin Compston, will apparently all be offered big-money deals to reprise their roles as Ted Hastings, Kate Fleming and Steve Arnott respectively.
The series will reportedly be shown once more on BBC One, the channel it has been on for its last three seasons, having started life on BBC Two.
The show is one of the BBC’s most successful, and the last series was no different with the finale being watched by more than 15 million viewer, setting the record for the most watched episode of any drama since records began in 2002.
It has been a critical success as well, winning a number of awards, including Best Drama Series at this year’s National Television Awards.
But there has been uncertainty over whether it will be returning for a seventh run, with the last series concluding with the unveiling of H and many of the show’s storylines being tied up.
It proved a controversial ending though, with many fans unhappy.
But if the views of the show’s creator are anything to go by, maybe we shouldn’t get our hopes up too much…
