The Netflix show, which centres around serial killers and criminal psychology, was never picked up for season three
If the reports from the likes of Small Screen are to be believed, Netflix Original, Mindhunter, could be returning for a third season after being seemingly cancelled in 2020.
The critically-acclaimed series, created by David Fincher (known for directing such films as Se7en, Gone Girl and Social Network), first aired in 2017 and was almost universally loved by fans and reviewers alike.
The show is set in the 1970s and explores the world of serial killers, as well as the pioneering people behind criminal psychology used in law enforcement. It features real-life figures such as Ed Kemper and even Charles Manson.
The arc of the show had been building towards the infamous BTK case, but fans were disappointed when plans for the third season were put on “indefinite hold”.
However, according to Netlfix sources, the project could still be revived as Fincher – who had previously said the show had been too a big commitment – “sounds more upbeat about the project” though they admit discussions are still in the early stages.
The source when on to clarify: “All I can really tell you about Mindhunter is that conversations between Netflix and Fincher are ongoing. They are discussing the possibility of bringing the show back for a third season.”
