The Boys issues warning to viewers over season finale following Trump assassination attempt

Charlie Herbert

‘Any similarities to recent events are completely coincidental’

The Boys has added a disclaimer to the start of its season four finale following the attempted assassination of Donald Trump.

The final episode of the fourth season of Amazon Prime’s hit superhero series was released on Thursday (July 18). When the titles for each episode of the season were announced weeks ago, the finale was called ‘Assassination Run.’

However, this has now been changed on the platform, with the eighth episode now simply titled ‘Season 4 Finale.’

This is after former US president Trump was the target of an assassination attempt during a rally in Pennsylvania. Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, fired shots at the Republican, with one of the bullets piercing his ear.

The gunman was killed by security forces.

In a grim case of fiction mirroring reality, part of the finale for The Boys revolves around an assassination plot of a fictional president,

The finale sees main character Hughie (Jack Quaid) try to foil an assassination attempt on President-Elect Robert Singer (Jim Beaver), orchestrated by the show’s villainous protagonist Homelander (Antony Starr).

As a result of the real-world events in Pennsylvania earlier this month, a disclaimer has now been added to the start of episode eight.

It reads: “Viewer discretion advised. This episode contains scenes of fictional political violence. Any similarities to recent events are completely coincidental and unintentional. Prime Video, Amazon, MGM Studios, Sony Pictures Television and the producers of The Boys oppose, in the strongest terms, real-world violence of any kind.”

The Boys viewers will see this disclaimer at the start of the season 4 finale (Prime Video)

A large part of the narrative of The Boys is mocking the alt-right movement that has developed in the US over the last few years.

Some people have also taken Homelander’s character to be Trump-esque figure in the show.
