Forget what you heard.
Much to the disappointment of every Friends fan out there, the much-loved sitcom will not be returning in autumn of next year, despite that David Schwimmer announcement on Facebook the other day.
How do we know this? Well, quite simple really. The David Schwimmer announcement wasn’t made by David Schwimmer at all. Instead, somebody decided to create a fake Facebook page pretending to be the actor – best known for playing Ross Geller in the show – and tell the world that the show’s original cast were reuniting for one final season.
Overlooking the fact that the actor’s surname had been spelled incorrectly, the bogus announcement was lapped up by tens of thousands of excited fans, swiftly becoming viral and clocking up nearly a quarter of a million shares on Facebook alone.
The return of Friends, which ran for a decade between 1994 and 2004, has long been the subject of speculation. Only last year, the sight of most of the cast (minus Matthew Perry, who was unable to attend due to other acting commitments ) back in each others’ company sparked further rumours that plans were being made for one final series.
For now at least, the wait goes on.
