Netflix’s most addictive show in years has smashed an extremely impressive record

Warning: This will consume your life

Warning, this will consume your life. It’s so addictive.

While we’re reluctant to sing our own praises, we have been very consistent when it comes to talking about the brilliant Spanish heist show, La Casa de Papel – or Money Heist as it’s more commonly known. In fact, one of the only good things to come from Storm Emma was the fact that we got to binge-watch the first season of the show and since then, it has consumed our lives.

Season 2 has recently been added to Netflix and if you’re not familiar with the fast-paced, addictive and twisting plot, you’re in for a treat.

Much like Prison Break, the show occurs in real time as the most daring heist in Spanish history takes place over a period of days.

Ok, what’s it about?

A mysterious man, who goes by the name of The Professor, is planning the biggest heist in history. In order to carry out the ambitious plan, he recruits a gang of eight people with certain abilities who have nothing to lose. The goal is to enter the Royal Mint of Spain and print 2.4 billion euros. In order to do this, they need eleven days of seclusion, during which they will have to deal with sixty-seven hostages and the elite forces of the police.

Much like any crew of strangers that are assembled for a heist job, alliances, fractures and personal problems begin to flare up, but with the stakes so high, can these criminals stick together as the pressure builds?

Aside from the very high production values and gripping plot, the show is also well acted – special praise goes to Raquel Murillo who plays the beleaguered hostage negotiator.

In recent years, Netflix has seriously committed their resources to developing and acquiring some of the best foreign-language films and TV shows available. For example, viewers have been treated to the likes of Narcos, Dark, 3 per cent, Suuburra and countless other films/shows, but Money Heist (La Casa De Papel) has now become “the most watched non-English series on Netflix ever.”

The online streaming giant has released their earnings report for the March quarter and aside from the fact that their revenue grew 43 per cent year over year in Q1, they also released some information regarding the shows that their viewers are watching and it’s clear that Money Heist is playing its part in adding to Netflix’s coffers.

If you haven’t seen the show, both seasons are currently available to watch and we urge you to do so.

Trust us, you’ll be addicted.
