Fresh from their $52 billion acquisition of Fox, Disney is undoubtedly the biggest film company in the world. Hell, they were a global behemoth before this acquisition even took place, but the list of titles that they now own is remarkable.
In terms of the deal with Fox, they now own all of the following: 20th Century Fox, Fox Searchlight Pictures, Fox 2000, 20th Century Fox Television, FX Productions, Fox21, FX Networks, National Geographic Partners, Fox Sports Regional Networks, Fox Networks Group International, and Star India. It also takes over Fox’s stake in Hulu, Sky, and Endemol Shine Group
Here’s a small taste of what they own.
Pixar – The finest animation studio in the world, they’ve got Coco and The Incredibles 2 coming out soon.
Lucasfilm – Ever hear of a little franchise called Star Wars? Well, the plan is to have a regular new adventure that’s set in a galaxy that’s far, far away every year. Cha-ching!
Marvel Studios– With Avengers: Infinity War set to be released next year, every single hero in the MCU is going to feature prominently. We’re also getting standalone Black Panther, Captain Marvel and Ant-Man and Wasp coming soon.
Walt Disney Pictures – Responsible for the live action films like Mary Poppins Returns and Beauty and the Beast – which made a remarkable amount of money at the box-office.
Walt Disney Animation Studios – right now, they’re busy making the likes of Frozen 2 and Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2. Their recent hits included Zootopia and Big Hero 6.
Fox – Deep breath because here are some of the films and franchises that are now owned by Disney: Alien, Predator, Die Hard, The Simpsons, Kingsman, The X-Files, Avatar, X-Men and all of their spin-offs (The New Mutants, Logan etc), Ice Age, Independence Day, Planet of the Apes, Fantastic Four. In terms of TV shows, they now own Family Guy, Prison Break, Archer, American Crime Story, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, American Horror Story, Sons of Anarchy, The Americans and much more.
All this without mentioning their various distribution, music and theatrical contracts. Truth be told, the aforementioned titles are just the tip of the ice berg.
