It’s not just the lineup that’s changing.
The TV watershed exists for a reason, but if you’re a fan of The Great British Bake Off, you’ll know that some of the innuendo is worthy of a place in the raunchiest comedies imaginable.
For example, try saying phrases like “stop touching your dough balls”, “stand away from your hot baps!” and “get those lady’s fingers soggy!” while keeping a straight face.
See, pure smut.
Now that the Great British Bake Off has moved over to Channel 4 and replaced Mary Berry, Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins with The Mighty Boosh’s Noel Fielding, Prue Leith and Sandi Toksvig, there’s a very different look to this adaptation.
Of course, Paul Hollywood is still there along with various other familiar sights, baked goods and pastries.
Given the fact that every TV host is different, it was always likely that the tone of the show might change and it appears that the baking puns, naughty innuendo and double-entendres are gone.
As reported by iNews, the new hosts have more of a “comic” and “surreal” presence.
According to their source, “There is no ‘soggy bottom’ in the first episode.” They also report that Noel Fielding’s brand of “surreal” humour is very prevalent.
Fans of The Might Boosh will be delighted to hear that.
As for the new lineup, it appears that all the ingredients are coming together nicely.
Jay Hunt, Channel 4’s programmes boss, said: “I was in the tent a few weeks ago for the whole day and was struck by the complete opposite (of the claims that the new lineup weren’t gelling), “That charm and natural warmth is very hard to achieve but their humour is already working very effectively together.”
