After Gorillaz picked up an award, he took the opportunity to speak about an ‘isolated Britain’.

After Gorillaz won Best British Group, beating Royal Blood, Wolf Alice, London Grammar and The xx, a drunk-seeming Damon Albarn took to the stage and launched into a speech about Brexit.

Taking the microphone, he began: “This country is, believe it or not, quite a small little thing right.
“It’s a lovely place and it’s part of a beautiful world but don’t let it become isolated and don’t let yourselves become cut off.”
Damon continued: “Considering our size, we do incredible things in music.
“We’ve got a real spirit, a real soul, so don’t let politics get in the way of all that shit ok?”
However, before he had time to continue talking the lights were turned off.
Another band member responded: “Oh, the lights just turned off,” which prompted show organisers to turn them back on. They then left the stage.
Although Albarn had sworn live on the telly, the Express reports that the reason for the cut off was actually because his speech had gone on too long.
As was evidenced at the BAFTAs there are usually strict rules on how long performers are allowed to be on stage for, to make sure the show doesn’t run over.
