Twelve years we’ve waited for this moment. Twelve long years.
But on Sunday July 24 2016 that Robot Wars-shaped void in all of our lives was finally filled.
Inevitably, it wasn’t quite the same as it was the last time it graced our television screens in the early 2000s. The lack of Craig Charles was an obvious disappointment…

I hope they roll out Craig Charles just do to a little rhyming couplet at the end. #RobotWars

Jonathan Pearce was still about, however. Just as we were starting to forget that he was anything other than a football commentator, his uncontrollable excitement reminded us just how much better he is at describing a bunch of robots kicking the metallic shit out of each other.

Even if his laugh is a bit creepy…
I never want to hear Jonathan Pearce laugh ever again. Terrifying. #RobotWars

The house robots were all still knocking about too…

Obviously, we were all much younger when Robot Wars was last on. Some of us were even kids, sitting cross-legged on our parents’ living room floor gawping at it open-mouthed on a non-flat TV.

If you were a youngster back then, you probably had plenty of admiration for the blokes that dedicated their lives to producing a robot that could see off Sir Killalot et al. But now that we’re a bit older and wiser, some of us have taken a slightly more cynical approach.
dont trust anybody who can build a robot for the robot wars tbh

"I've been fighting robots for 15 years" is the worst chat-up line ever #RobotWars

Guy on #RobotWars has just been described as an 'amateur rocket scientist' – not sure you should be meddling in that if you're an amateur…

Although many things had remained just as they were on the show, there were a few telling signs that this Robot Wars was very much taking place in 2016.
The use of ‘bae’ just wouldn’t have been seen in 2004, would it?

All in all though, the majority of those that tuned in were delighted to see it return.
Well, what a triumph #RobotWars was. Loved the group stage, Dara and @angelascanlon were superb, J-Pearce a delight. Bloody brilliant.
