The Wolf of Wall Street officially ranked Leo DiCaprio’s best film

Charlie Herbert

The film which finally bagged him an Oscar isn’t even in the top five

He’s one of the finest actors of our generation and was a living meme for a good long while as his wait for an Oscar seemed to go on with every passing year. Now, movie fans have voted on their favourite Leonardo DiCaprio film – and a predictable title has come out on top.

According to Ranker, our favourite Leo film is the The Wolf of Wall Street.

With almost 1,500 upvotes, the Martin Scorsese-directed banker epic sits atop of a 30-strong list but despite its huge popularity and success, it wasn’t this film that finally earned DiCaprio his Academy Award hoodoo.

Of course, it was his starring role as the tortured Hugh Glass in The Revenant that finally bagged the Titanic star some Oscar recognition.

However the 2015 film sits at number eight in the list, with just under half the upvotes of The Wolf of Wall Street.

In second place is the hugely enjoyable Catch Me If You Can from Steven Spielberg, in which he stars as con man Frank Abagnale, Jr., opposite Tom Hanks.

And unsurprisingly, Titanic gets the bronze medal. The James Cameron classic actually received more upvotes than Wolf but is clearly a more divisive film with it receiving 454 downvotes, hence the third place finish.

Rounding out the top five are Inception and The Departed – both strong contenders in their own right.

The biggest surprise might be Once Upon a Time in Hollywood not even making the top 10, with Quentin Tarantino’s latest sitting in a disappointing 13th place.

Meanwhile, right at the bottom are Critters 3, Don’s Plum and Ice on Fire. The less said about them the better.

Honourable mentions go to Baz Luhrmann’s Shakespeare reworking Romeo + Juliet in 15th and The Great Gatsby in 14th.

Perhaps it’s only when you look at a full list of his films that you realise what a career Leo has had. Films like Shutter Island and Django Unchained would be the peaks of most actors’ careers but they don’t even make the top five in this list (sixth and seventh respectively).

What a man – and what a set of films.
