There are some absolutely brilliant films being released in March

While the producers of Moonlight continue to dance in the moonlight following its success at the Oscars, there’s no shortage of quality films being released in March.

Here are some of the titles that stood out for us.

Logan

Plot: In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.

Go see it because: It’s rightfully being heralded as one of the greatest comic-book films of all time. Having seen it, you won’t be disappointed. It’s superb.

Kong: Skull Island

Plot: A team of explorers and soldiers travel to an uncharted island in the Pacific, unaware that they are crossing into the domain of monsters, including the mythic Kong.

Go see it because: If you want something to watch at the cinema that’s incredibly fun then you’ll go ape for this. It’s an absolute riot that features memorable action and terrific turns from John C.Reilly and Samuel L. Jackson.

Get Out

Plot: A young African-American man visits his Caucasian girlfriend’s mysterious family estate.

Go see it because: An original horror film that’s being lauded as one of the year’s most important films. The trailer and premise looked superb. We can’t wait.

Life

Plot: An international space crew discovers life on Mars

Go see it because:  Rebecca Ferguson, Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds get their Alien on in this sci-fi horror that looks like it has perfectly balanced scares with smarts.

Free Fire

Plot: Set in Boston in 1978, a meeting in a deserted warehouse between two gangs turns into a shootout and a game of survival.

Go see it because: Guns. Cillian Murphy. Guns. Brie Larsson. More guns.

Ben Wheatley’s new film sounds brilliantly bonkers.

Elle

Plot: A successful businesswoman gets caught up in a game of cat and mouse as she tracks down the unknown man who raped her.

Go see it because: Isabelle Huppert’s performance really is something to behold.

The Lost City Of Z

Plot: A true-life drama, centering on British explorer Col. Percival Fawcett, who disappeared while searching for a mysterious city in the Amazon in the 1920s.

Go see it because: 90% on Rotten Tomatoes and it has drawn comparisons to some of David Lean’s iconic  films. Granted, it’s never going to be as good as The Bridge on the River Kwai, but what is?

The Love Witch

Plot: A modern-day witch uses spells and magic to get men to fall in love with her, in a tribute to 1960s pulp novels and Technicolor melodramas.

Go see it because: Parody, homage and incredibly cheeky, this film already has a staggering 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Void

Plot:  A multi volume anthology series featuring some of the best award winning short films from the horror, suspense, thriller, sci-fi and fantasy genres,

Go see it because:  If you liked the horror series VHS, this could be just the thing for you. It has already been called “a dark, demented, and disgusting horror film that’s going to live among the greatest body horror films of all time.”

Beauty & The Beast

Plot: An adaptation of the Disney fairy tale about a monstrous-looking prince and a young woman who fall in love.

Go see it because: It’s going to make an absolute fortune at the box-office. It might not be for you, but it’s definitely going to draw an audience.

Elsewhere, you might fancy seeing the sweeping gangster drama The Age Of Shadows, Michael Pena hitting the highway in the adaptation of the beloved TV show CHiPs, the return of the Power Rangers, Oscar winner The Salesman or Scarlett Johansson kicking ass in Ghost In The Shell.
