But is he going to voice Wade Wilson?
Deadpool was the surprise superhero smash of last year. The (relatively) low budget, R-rated X-Men spin-off appealed to the teenage boy in audiences the world over, and turned the former cult character into a household name.
A sequel to that movie is on its way (a sneak peek played in cinemas before Logan earlier this year), but it turns out we’re going to be getting more Deadpool from an unexpected source.
A ten-episode adult animated series starring the character will be coming to US cable channel FXX next year. And the show will be executive produced, written and showrun by none other than Childish Gambino himself, Donald Glover, alongside his brother Stephen.
There’s no world on the voice cast yet, though obviously it would be great to have Glover in there. Glover is of course playing Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Han Solo movie, and also writes and stars in Atlanta on FXX’s sister channel FX.
A statement from FXX said:
Donald Glover is an incredibly gifted and versatile artist who’ll bring the untitled Marvel’s Deadpool series to life with the same intense, singular vision as his breakout hit Atlanta. With the success of Legion, we’re looking forward to again partnering with Marvel Television to create a series that is bold, striking and entirely original.
