These are the 2016 BAFTA nominations and it’s one of the toughest to call in years…

Leonardo DiCaprio, Eddie Redmayne, Matt Damon, Michael Fassbender and Bryan Cranston will battle it out for the Best Actor BAFTA award.

Redmayne won the best gong last year for The ‘Theory of Everything’, but competition is tougher this year with Leo up for ‘The Revenant’, Damon for ‘The Martian’, Fassbender for ‘Steve Jobs’ and Cranston for ‘Trumbo’.

Cate Blanchett leads the Best Actress category for the The EE British Academy Film Awards 2016 with a nomination for her role in the critically acclaimed ‘Carol’.

She will compete against Alicia Vikander for ‘The Danish Girl’, as well as Brie Larson for ‘Room’, Saoirse Ronan for ‘Brooklyn’ , and Dame Maggie Smith for ‘The Lady in the Van’.

Idris Elba is up in the Supporting Actor category for ‘Beasts Of No Nation’, taking on Benicio del Toro for ‘Sicario’, Christian Bale for ‘The Big Short’, Mark Ruffalo for ‘Spotlight’ and Mark Rylance for ‘Bridge of Spies’.

2016 could be the year that Sir Ridley Scott finally takes home a BAFTA as he is up for Best Director, but will have to beat Steven Spielberg for ‘Bridge of Spies’, Adam McKay for ‘The Big Short’, Todd Haynes for ‘Carol’ and Alejandro G Inarritu for ‘The Revenant’.

‘Bridge of Spies’ and ‘Carol’ led the nominations with nine nods each, followed by ‘The Revenant’ with eight.

The the ceremony will take place at London’s Royal Opera House on February 14.
