These are the top five most streamed tracks on Spotify in 2016

You’ve probably heard these once or twice over the past 11 months or so.

‘One Dance’ by Drake (feat. WizKid and Kyla) is the most streamed song on Spotify in 2016, according to Spotify’s Global Year in 2016 report.

The song made history in 2016 by overtaking last year’s number one, Lean On by Major Lazer (ft. MØ and DJ Snake), as the most popular song ever on Spotify with almost 970 million streams.

Mike Posner’s ‘I Took A Pill in Ibiza’ was second on the list of the most streamed songs of 2016, followed by ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ (feat. Daya) by The Chainsmokers. Rihanna’s ‘Work’ (feat. Drake) and ‘Cheap Thrills’ by Sia.

It was a good year overall for Drake, who emerged as the most streamed artist of 2016, followed by Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Twenty One Pilots and Kanye West and if that wasn’t enough, Views was the most streamed album of the past year.

In some of the more interesting revelations from the Spotify report, meanwhile, the appropriately titled ‘Sex’ by Cheat Codes, Kris Kross Amsterdam was the ‘top sex song’ of 2016, while Speed Garage and Brazilian Gospel were two of the biggest emerging genres of the year.
