Viewers say decade-old drama is ‘100 times better’ than Game of Thrones

Charlie Herbert

If you’re looking for the next epic series to binge, this could be the answer

People have been raving about series which concluded almost 10 years ago, with some labelling it better than Game of Thrones and the ‘greatest TV show ever.’

There’s a lot of great stuff on TV at the moment. Whether you’re after adventures in a far away galaxy, blonde-haired psychos flying dragons, or some brutal superhero tales there’s something for everyone.

But it’s always good to have a huge boxset that you work away on in the background. An epic show you can stick on in the evening when you’re stuck for something to do, and which has already come to an end so there’s no waiting for the next series.

We’re talking shows like Breaking Bad, The Wire, The Sopranos and, of course, Game of Thrones.

There’s one series which may have passed you by though – Sons of Anarchy.

Sons of Anarchy ran for seven seasons from 2008 until 2014, and starred Charlie Hunnam as Jax Teller, Katey Sagal as his mother Gemma Morrow and Ron Perlman as her husband Clay Morrow.

You can watch the trailer below.

The show is all about an outlawed motorcycle club based in the fictional California town of Charming. The focus of the series is Teller, who discovers a manifesto written by his father and club founder, which leads members of the group to start questioning the club, those around them and themselves.

Sons of Anarchy received critical acclaim over its seven series, a holds a Rotten Tomatoes score of 87 per cent.

Even though the series first aired more than 15 years ago, it’s constantly being discovered by people, reaching new fans like all the best shows do.

Raving about the show on social media, many have labelled it the greatest TV show of all time.

Writing on X, one person said: “I’m going to say something controversial here. Sit yourselves down. You ready? OK … I got bored with Game of Thrones. I started watching Sons of Anarchy instead and it’s 100 times better. I realise I may have started the third world war here but I’m not sorry.”

In response to a post asking what the greatest TV show ever is, another was in no doubt about the answer.

Someone else said: “If it’s not Sopranos, than it has to be Breaking Bad or Sons of Anarchy.”

A fourth wrote that they were re-watching Sons of Anarchy because “it’s the best damn TV show ever,” with another saying they were binging it “for the billionth time.”

If you want to judge for yourself where the show ranks in the pantheon of TV greats, all seven series of Sons of Anarchy are available to watch in the UK on Disney+.
