If you didn’t bother going out on NYE, there’s a good chance you might have seen some of Robbie Williams’ performance on BBC 1.

Hours before Mariah Carey made a fine mess of ushering in 2017 in Times Square in New York, the former Take That singer performed live from Central Hall in Westminster, London.

At one point, the 42-year-old waded into the crowd during the gig, singing Auld Lang Syne and shaking hands with various members of the audience.

Having eventually returned to the stage, cameras captured a grimacing Robbie covering his hands in anti-bacterial gel…

Although it was only on our screens for a split second, plenty of viewers were quick to spot it – many describing it as an early highlight of 2017…

Earlier in the performance, Robbie had made the audience aware that the BBC had told him he wasn’t allowed to swear while on stage. Despite this, he appeared to urge the crowd to fill in any blanks…
