Casey Affleck’s new film is being tipped as the one to beat at the Oscars

Manchester By The Sea looks incredible.

Manchester By the Sea has been earning rave reviews.

Plot’s it all about?: While his brother Ben has been winning awards and playing The Dark Knight, Casey Affleck has slowly went about building a very impressive body of work. We still remember him in Good Will Hunting, but since that iconic film, he has gone on to star in the Ocean’s trilogy, Interstellar and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford to name but a few.

It was his performance in Gone Baby Gone though that made the world stand up and take notice of his immense talent because that film still ranks as one of the decade’s best.

His new film Manchester By the Sea has already swept the board at Sundance and with Michelle Williams and Kyle Chandler co-starring, it looks like an early front runner for the Oscars, especially in the acting categories.

The plot details are as follows “Lee Chandler (Casey Affleck) is a brooding, irritable loner who works as a handyman for a Boston apartment block. One damp winter day he gets a call summoning him to his hometown, north of the city. His brother’s heart has given out suddenly, and he’s been named guardian to his 16-year-old nephew. As if losing his only sibling and doubts about raising a teenager weren’t enough, his return to the past re-opens an unspeakable tragedy.” This looks like it has serious potential.

Directed by: Kenneth Lonergan

Starring: Kyle Chandler, Michelle Williams, Casey Affleck, Matthew Broderick and more.
