Watch the best of the Emmy speeches featuring Ricky Gervais, Andy Samberg and John Stewart

Lia Nicholls

You always rely on Ricky Gervais to inject some life into US awards dos.

The British comedian stunned Hollywood during his stint presenting the Golden Globes before Tina Fey and Amy Poehler took over, making remarks that are unlikely to ever be forgotten.

Although he refrained from the offensive at Sunday’s 67th Primetime Emmy Awards, Gervais had some fun…

Knowing full well that despite being nominated, he wasn’t wasn’t going to win, he pretended to take home the gong anyway…

The show’s host Andy Samberg also deserves a mention for his first job at the helm.

In his opening monologue, the comedian fired shots at Bill Cosby and Donald Trump in a series of well-timed gags.

Although the critics were divided on his performance, we think the goofy comedian deserves to be commended.

It’s only been a few weeks since Jon Stewart left The Daily Show so it’s good for his fans to get another dose of the talented host.

Picking up the gong for Outstanding Variety Talk Series, he urged the TV-industry audience not to do what he did.

Stewart said: “To everybody on television, I just want to tell you: cling to it as long as you can. Like death. Like in Titanic, the guy who was — cling to it,”

“I have been off of television for six weeks, seven weeks, whatever it is. This is the first applause I’ve heard.”

After he thanked his former colleagues and got LL Cool J to give him a shout-out, Stewart said something his fans will be hoping isn’t true: “You will never have to see me again.”
