“None of Del Boy’s French is making any sense at all!”
Only Fools and Horses is one of the greatest British sitcoms of all time. Running between 1981 and 2003, Peckham’s Del Boy and Rodney won the hearts of the nation with their dodgy schemes and romantic exploits. The show spawned several spin-offs and even a recent West End musical adaptation, and the words and phrases from the show are firmly part of British pop culture.
It’s something that most of us grew up watching, either when it first aired or on reruns on Gold – but what if you’ve never seen the show before? We got a French person to watch Only Fools and Horses for the first time, to see what she made of it. As well as showing her classical bits like Del Boy falling through the bar and the chandelier moments, we also got her to critique Del’s somewhat unique take on the French language.
