There are great trailers, then there’s this!
There are certain films that you watch in the cinema and it’s impossible not to feel like you’re experiencing them first-hand. Think of the sense of spectacle and imminent danger in Dunkirk, the realism of Saving Private Ryan, or the tension from one of your favourite horror films.
On this note, one Oscar-winning film was filled with so much nerve-shredding drama and muscle-clenching tension that you almost feel like you’re a part of the story.
If you haven’t seen The Lives of Others then you’re in for a real treat – seriously, there are moments when it feels like there’s an elephant stomping on your chest – but if you have seen the Cold War drama, you’ll be delighted to know that its creator is back with a new show on Netflix and it looks like an absolute doozy.
If you’re a fan of crime, horror, mystery and the macabre, Dark is just the thing for you.
The show revolves around a search for a missing child that sets four families on a frantic hunt for answers. Their search for the culprit though unearths a small town’s sins and secrets. The disappearance of these two kids opens abysses that turn the concept of time on its head. In a very curious twist, the question ultimately becomes not who has kidnapped the children…but when.
With ten, hour-long episodes, the story takes on a supernatural twist that ties back to the same town in 1986.
Having seen the trailer, we couldn’t help but think that it’s a tantalising mix of so many of our favourite TV shows and films.
Stranger Things (the plot), Gone Girl (the aesthetic), Black Mirror (the time-bending narrative), True Detective (the occult element).
Dark premieres on Netflix on December 1st.
Take a look.
