It’s been 20 years since the first Blade swooped into the cinemas, and it’s still a firm favourite today
Way back before the term ‘Marvel movie’ really meant anything, Blade was out there doing the business.
The 1998 movie was a box office success – one of Marvel’s first – and opened the door to the cavalcade of superhero movies that clog up our cinemas today.
Twenty years is a long time – an even longer time in Hollywood – and there has been talk of a Blade remake over the last couple of years.
It seems that the original Daywalker, Wesley Snipes himself, is up for the idea.
Replying to a tweet that said, ‘BLADE needs a remake’, Snipes said, “Up to marvel….my teeth still sharp.”

There has been some appetite amongst fans to see Blade join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Marvel aren’t totally opposed to the idea.
“We think it would be cool. Someday,” Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige said last year.
“My tenure at Marvel started 17 years ago, and there were two things that sort of launched the modern era. One was X-Men, which was the first thing that people said, ‘Oh, there’s life here.’
“But a few years before that, there was Blade. A character nobody had heard of at all, had only appeared in a few issues of Tomb of Dracula or something, turned into a big franchise.”
But would we see Snipes return to the role?
Probably not. It’s not much of a remake if the original star comes back in the lead role. Wesley’s teeth may still be sharp, but he’s also 56 years old. If Marvel were to bring the character back, they may want to inject some new blood into the franchise.
All of that said, if Marvel were to completely lose their minds and cast Snipes in a remake, we’d 100% go and see it at least 50 times.
