You might not remember Big Daddy, Rollerball Rocco and Giant Haystacks, but Simon Cowell does.
The X Factor boss was a huge fan of wrestling when it aired on ITV’s World of Sport anthology show in the 70s, and earlier this year it was reported he was interested in reviving the sport on British TV.
Professional grappler Drew Galloway (below) wants Simon to push ahead with it, saying he’s the right muscle man for the job.
Galloway – who is a big star on weekly US wrestling TV show TNA IMPACT, which airs on Challenge in the UK – thinks the entertainment mogul has the “money and influence” to turn it into prime-time viewing.
Galloway told BANG Showbiz: “Simon can do it (get wrestling back). He’s got a huge name and if anyone’s got the money and influence to bring it back it would be him.”
“That’s the one thing British wrestling is missing – a big television show. That’s what British wrestling needs … There are so many good wrestlers out there that just need somebody to see what they’re doing. It’s just putting the legitimate best talent forward to do it. That’s all the UK is missing right now, I hope Simon’s serious about a TV show.”
Are you a wrestling fan? Galloway is visiting the UK in January 2016 for the latest TNA tour featuring wrestling superstars Kurt Angle, MVP and Matt Hardy.
