Will Smith predicted that he would ‘choose chaos’ hours before Oscar slapping incident

He acts, he sings – and now he predicts the future?

Will Smith may have rightly predicted that he would “choose chaos” hours before he slapped Chris Rock in front of the world at the Oscars.

On March 28, the world awoke to the shocking news that Will Smith, 53, had slapped comedian Chris Rock, 57, after the latter made a joke aimed towards Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett. Likening her to “G.I Jane” in relation to her haircut – itself a result of Pinkett-Smith’s alopecia – Rock was accused of being “insensitive” by some viewers online.

Alopecia is a condition that can cause a person’s hair to fall out. It can affect the head and scalp or any other area of the body.

On top of winning the Best Actor Oscar for his role in King Richard, Smith could also be accused of giving 90’s medium Mystic Meg a run for her money.

Posting to social media before the illustrious award ceremony started, Smith wrote: “Me ‘n @jadapinkettsmith got all dressed up to choose chaos.”

His Instagram post now has close to two million likes, with Smith himself commenting two hours later with “You can’t invite people from Philly or Baltimore nowhere!!”

“This aged amazingly,” athlete Rachel Annamarie Demita rightly pointed out. “And Choose chaos you did,” another said.

The internet has been set ablaze with fierce debate over Smith’s outburst. While some fans have argued that the Academy Awards have rules regarding this type of violent behaviour, others took more offence at Rock’s “tasteless” joke.

The Academy condemned the ordeal themselves via Twitter, where they wrote: “The Academy does not condone violence of any form.

“Tonight we are delighted to celebrate our 94th Academy Awards winners, who deserve this moment of recognition from their peers and movie lovers around the world.”
