If you are of a certain age – between about 18 and 45, probably – Blockbuster Video will hold a special place in your heart.
Long before Netflix, Amazon Prime and YouTube, glorious childhood memories were formed travelling to your local Blockbuster and spending ages methodically going through the racks deciding what VHS/DVD (delete as age-appropriate) to take home with you).
Anyway, you can’t go back to that now. That’s the past. Things are better. You have thousands of movies available at your fingertips, from all over the world. You only miss that time because now you have responsibilities and are less well-off than your parents’ generation and facing the climate change apocalypse and you are also stuck in the midst of a global pandemic.
But I digress. If you do however want to grasp a bit of that nostalgia, you can now actually stay at an old Blockbuster. The Last Blockbuster, actually.
The world’s only remaining Blockbuster is in Bend, Oregon, and has become a bit of a tourist attraction. And now, they’re letting you stay at the store overnight and have listed it on Airbnb.
There is a catch though – it is only going be available for three nights.
“Dust off those membership cards for a sleepover inside the world’s last BLOCKBUSTER,” reads the listing. “When you call dibs on this stay, you’re booking a night back in the 90s, but this time you won’t have to beg your parents to rent the latest horror flick–we’ll give you the keys to the entire store!”
“On 8/17 at 1PM PT, we’re inviting movie lovers from the area to request to book one of these three, one-night stays that will take place on 9/18, 9/19 and 9/20 for up to four people.”
Just take a peak at how amazing it looks inside.
Got to love that achingly-90s bedspread. It looks like the opening titles of Saved by the Bell.
And of course, there is a VCR.
