Thanks to its impressive size and rows of sharp teeth, a great white shark that washed up on a beach in North Carolina has gone viral.
The dead shark washed ashore in Hatteras, North Carolina, around February 6 and appeared to be a juvenile. Dana Rose shared images of the creature on Facebook, where she wrote: “Shelling right now and rolled up on this big boy!! Rip mr shark!! But just think this is what swims with us!!! It’s their ocean we are the visitors!! Was cool to see!!!”
Rose found the creature while collecting shells and decided to share her discovery with the world. In one image, Rose lifts the creature’s head to reveal rows and rows of razor-sharp teeth.
Another photo shows Rose standing next to the creature, which looks far smaller than the colossal sharks we are used to seeing in cinemas.
National Geographic suggests that the ocean killers grow to around 15ft on average but can grow significantly larger.
The images have circulated the internet and most can’t get over how cute it is.
One person wrote: “Poor baby- but super cool!! The circle of life.”
Another said: “This is REALLY cool to see but sad he died.”
The biggest Great White in the world is currently Deep Blue, which measures over 20ft and weighs 2.5 tonnes, reports the Sun. The shark, which is thought to be around 50-years-old, was last spotted in 2019 in Hawaii, where he was eating a dead sperm whale.
Upon recognising the creature as Deep Blue, divers Mark Mohler and Kimberly Jeffries said: “My first reaction was just disbelief .
“She followed three tiger sharks in toward the whale carcass, and her sheer size made them look like barracudas.”
