PETA launches grisly online shop selling ‘human leather’

‘Reveal human faces on the jackets, human teeth on the shoes, and human blood oozing from the bags’

Animal rights pressure group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has launched a rather striking campaign that shows ‘human leather’.

In a bid to call out the shops that sell real leather products, PETA has stitched together what appears to be human skin.

The satirical store, named Urban Outraged, is a clear spoof of Urban Outfitters but features numerous items that are made to look like human skin.

Though the clothes are not human skin, whoever designed them deserves numerous awards and potentially a job on American Horror Story.

A press release from the group describes the items as being “made of the finest leather — that on second look, reveal human faces on the jackets, human teeth on the shoes, and human blood oozing from the bags”.

“A cow’s skin belongs to her, and she feels fear and pain in a slaughterhouse every bit as much as you or I would,” vice president Tracy Reiman told the New York Post.

If the launch could not get any creepier, some items are connected to the names of people who apparently donated their body parts.

For instance, poor Dwayne was “kicked in the head repeatedly until his face was unrecognisable”. Another, named the Richard Loafers, were supposedly taken from Richard, who was “ready to sacrifice himself so that others could look their best”.

“PETA’s Urban Outraged challenges shoppers to see the individual behind every bit of animal skin on store racks and shelves,” Reiman explained.
