Get off your phone at the gym, says Lou Ferrigno

When The Hulk talks, you listen

Lou Ferrigno recently took to Instagram to voice his displeasure with people who spend too much time on their phones at the gym.

Ferrigno was the original Hulk, so it’s worth taking his advice on board. Unless, that is, you want to make him angry. And you wouldn’t like him when he’s angry.

Speaking on Instagram, the New York native said:

“It’s very frustrating that you go to the gym and want to have the quality of time to workout.

“I can’t tell you how many times I go to the gym, I walk over to a piece of equipment, and I see some guys sitting there, holding their phone like this.”

Ferrigno didn’t hold back when sharing his thoughts on time-wasting gym goers.

“I’m here to train. If you don’t want to work out, don’t waste your time at the gym.”

Although Ferrigno is best known as the original Hulk, he’s also a bodybuilding icon. He hails from the Arnold Schwarzenegger heyday, and actually finished third behind the Austrian and Serge Nubret at the 1975 Mr. Olympia contest.

Ferrigno is documented as part of the 1977 film Pumping Iron, which documented Arnold’s progress in the run-up to the 1975 Olympia.

Playing on your phone at the gym becomes a problem when it affects your focus. If you’re resting for too long between sets, your workout won’t be intense enough to stimulate muscle growth.

It’s also pretty annoying for other gym goers. If someone’s waiting to use the kit, be a good sport and stay off your phone until you’ve finished.

If you are one of those people whose workouts are affected by people playing on their phones, Ferrigno has a few words of wisdom.

“Don’t let them discourage you. Find another machine, and complain to the manager.”
