A few months ago, Mark Wahlberg’s daily schedule and workout routine went viral
James Corden was recently put through his paces by the Mile 22 actor in one of his notorious 4am workouts. To say The Late Late Show host wasn’t ready would be an understatement.
Wahlberg likes to get up around 2:30am, train at 4am and eat his breakfast all before the majority of people have woken up.
His daily deeds aren’t done there, though. Wahlberg finds the time to fit his family in around numerous meetings, work commitments, golf and a spell in the cryochamber. There’s also a shower spell which seems to last for 90 minutes…
Sticking to such a strict schedule demands a regimented attitude. To see how he’d fare, James Corden took up Wahlberg’s offer of a gruelling 4am workout.
He got slightly more than he bargained for.
Waking up at 2:30am, Corden couldn’t quite function. Hitting the gym seemed the least of his concerns, and he didn’t fancy working out.
At 2:45am, it was Wahlberg’s prayer time – but Corden was ‘praying that he cancels.’ It’s common to lack motivation when you’re tired, but you’ve just got to get it done.
To be fair to Corden, he still turned up.
Making his way over to Wahlberg’s home, there was barely another car on the road. Corden said he’d ‘never seen these roads so quiet’, which goes to show how alien training before 4am is.
Late strength coach Charles Poliquin once said ‘you have to earn your carbs’. Wahlberg lives by this mantra, and passed it on to Corden ahead of their training session.
Wahlberg said: ‘The workout’s gonna suck, but you’ll have a shake and some turkey burgers after and you’ll feel great.’
‘And then you’re gonna go and attack the rest of the day.’
The pair warmed up with some myofascial release on the foam roller, which can help reduce stiffness.
They then embarked on a high-intensity session including the following exercises:
- Alternating lunges
- Battle ropes
- Versa climber
- Bench press
- Treadmill sprints
- Dumbbell step-ups
- Cable row into shoulder press
- Elevated push-ups
- SkiErg machine
- Skipping (jump rope if you’re in the States)
After the workout was done and Corden picked himself up off the floor, the former Gavin and Stacey star then revealed t-shirts he had emblazoned with his and Wahlberg’s silhouettes. The t-shirts were complete with a ‘4am workout’ logo.
If this session was anything to go by, Corden’s presence at the 4am workout club will probably be short-lived. But at least he got stuck in and gave it a go.
