What do you look for in a protein powder to aid your post-workout recovery?
For many people ‘taste’ is pretty high up the list.
Yes, your whey protein powder should have a decent protein content and a low carb and fat profile.
But if it tastes like s**t, then it’s going to be a long slog wading your way through a 5kg tub of the stuff.
For many people dieting hard, a chocolate-flavoured shake after a workout is the closest thing to a ‘cheat’ they will eat all day – so why buy something that tastes like soil and mixes like cement?
One product you can’t put in the ‘tastes like compost’ category is Multipower’s new 100% Whey Protein powder.
We’ve reviewed this powder for a whole month and it’s definitely one of the best-tasting whey products we’ve tried.
The standard rich chocolate is really cocoa-like and the newly-formulated coffee caramel flavour is great too (they’re even better mixed together).
But beyond the flavour, Multipower’s 100% feels like a quality product. It mixes well and the shakes are quite thick – even when mixed with a full pint of water.
The macronutrients profile is pretty solid too. There’s 23g of protein per serving – which might not be as high as rival brands – but the carb and fat content are pretty low at 1.3g and 1.4g per serving.
But the most impressive number you’ll read on the label is the BCAA (Branch Chain Amino Acid) content at nearly 6g.
BCAAs are essential in reducing muscle fatigue, speeding up recovery and stopping your muscles losing vital amino acids during a workout.
The only potential stumbling block was the price – at £64.99 for 2kg it’s not the cheapest, but nor is it the most expensive product on the market by a long shot.
But, the old adage ‘you get what you pay for’ holds true. Buy cheap bulk powders from the internet and you can probably expect low grade protein with lots of sugars and additives.
