Five battered Mars bars does not sound like the normal diet of an athlete
But then again, swimming the entire coastline of the United Kingdom is not a normal thing to do, even for the most elite of athletes in the world.
Ross Edgley did exactly that in 2018, when he became the first person in history to swim the entire coastline of the UK. He completed this extraordinary task in 157 days, and he ate a lot to fuel his body through it all.
We sat down virtually with Ross to discuss the difficulty in completing his incredible journey, and to break down the absolutely incredible amounts of food needed to help him do it.
"I did five battered Mars bars on one tide when we got to Scotland…"
In order to swim the UK's entire coastline, @RossEdgley consumed a whopping 15,000 calories each day. pic.twitter.com/lajpFjLs39
