We all think we can put food away (especially if we’re a few pints down on a Friday evening) but have you got the guts to tackle these gastro-monstrosities? Taken directly from the official guide to gluttony, Man v. Food, these challenges represent the biggest and baddest chow-downs in the US of A.
It’s time to put your money where your mouth is: do you reckon you can clean your plate or are you gonna need the chuck bucket?
1. The Kookamonga Burger

Where?
Kooky Canuk in Memphis, Tennessee.
What?
A 12,000 calorie, 7.5 lb burger with optional fries. The patty alone weighs 4 lb, so why you’d want to add extra potato into the mix, we don’t know.
How?
Beat the burger unaided in under 60 minutes and you get the burger for free, as well as your picture in the illustrious Hall of Fame.
2. Carnivore Challenge

Where?
Big Pie in the Sky Pizzeria in Atlanta, Georgia.
What?
An 11 lb pizza with pepperoni, ground beef, Italian sausage, ham and bacon.
How?
You and a buddy both take on the giant pie; if you finish it in one hour, you get $250 cash. If you don’t, you’ve got a $50 bill to settle.
3. Papa Bob’s Ultimate Destroyer Challenge

Where?
Papa Bob’s Bar-B-Que in Kansas City, Missouri.
What?
A 12″ sandwich filled with pulled pork, smoked ham, turkey and three half-pounder burgers, smothered in barbecue sauce. Served with half a pound of fries, dill pickles and jalapeño peppers.
How?
Clear the plate in 45 minutes and your meal is free. You also get your picture on the Wall of Fame, a Papa Bob’s t-shirt and an “I survived the Ultimate Destroyer” badge.
4. Mt. Nacheesmo

Where?
Tios Mexican Café in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
What?
A 5 lb platter of nachos, which claims to be the world’s largest. Topped with beans, beef, chicken, pork, cheese, tomatoes, onions, green peppers, black olives, sour cream, guacamole and creamy queso.
How?
Scale the mountain in 45 minutes or less to claim a place on the Wall of Fame and a t-shirt.
5. Unforgiven Challenge

Where?
Red Rock Saloon in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
What?
A burger with a half-pounder topped with cheese and bacon, a deep-fried chicken breast, another half-pounder topped with MORE cheese and bacon, a fried egg, lettuce, tomato and fried onion rings.
Served with a pound of beer battered fries AND six Ghost pepper wings (with a heat index over one million Scovilles).
How?
God knows, but if you manage it you get a free meal, a t-shirt, a hat and a place on the Wall of Fame.
6. The 72 oz Steak Challenge

The Big Texan in Amarillo, Texas.
What?
A baked potato, shrimp cocktail, a bread roll, salad and of course, a 72 oz steak (that’s 4.5 lb of meat).
How?
Eat the entire meal in an hour and you’re dining for free, friend. Fail, then that’ll be $72, please.
7. Kodiak Arrest Challenge

Where?
Humpy’s Great Alaskan Alehouse in Anchorage, Alaska.
What?
Seven crab nuggets, 14″ of reindeer sausage, 3 lb of Alaskan king crab, served with sides.
How?
You’ve got one hour to put away all that food, which will earn you a spot in the Hall of Fame and an “I got crabs at Humpy’s” t-shirt. If you beat the current record of 12 minutes and 10 seconds, you eat for free.
8. Great Balls of Fire

Where?
Salvador Molly’s in Portland, Oregon.
What?
Five habanero cheese fritters with Sunshine & Pain hot sauce.
How?
It may not look like much, but you’ve got to clear the whole plate – sauce and all. Just so you know what you’re getting into, the restaurant makes you sign a release form absolving them from any responsibility. Yeah, it’s that hot.
9. 110 Reuben Challenge

Where?
Izzy’s in Cincinnati, Ohio.
What?
A huge sandwich consisting of a giant potato pancake, a pound of corned beef, sauerkraut and Swiss cheese, with pickles on the side.
How?
You have 30 minutes to eat the whole sandwich. Completing the challenge means the meal is free, plus you get a snazzy t-shirt and your face on the Wall of Fame.
10. Superbowl Pho Challenge

Sprouts Spring Roll & Pho in Arlington, Texas.
What?
A massive, 5 lb bowl of Pho soup, filled with noodles, meat and veggies.
How?
Clean the bowl out in half an hour or less and you’ll win a special t-shirt that gets you 10% off every time you wear it to Sprouts Spring Roll & Pho.
11. Wintzell’s Oyster House Challenge
Where?
Wintzell’s Oyster House in Mobile, Alabama.
What?
Simply eat more oysters in an hour than the last record holder did.
How?
Roll up to Wintzell’s, declare that you’re taking on the challenge, and start scoffing raw oysters. According to the Wintzell’s website, the record is currently set at 421 oysters. Easy, right?
