Mmmmm, gold leaf.
How much would you be willing to pay for a good burger? Would you be prepared to dish out £20?
Add two zeros to that figure and you’ll be able to afford the most expensive burger in the world, as has been confirmed by the Guinness Book of World Records.
As you might expect, there’s a little more to the burger than a bit of lettuce, a few onions and a splash of ketchup; there’s a lot more than that, in fact.
Created by Chef Diego Buik, who works at the South of Houston restaurant in The Hague, it includes lobster, caviar, foie gras and brioche burger buns, while the burger itself is a blend of Japanese dry-aged Wagyu (the most expensive steak in the world) and Black Angus beef steak.
The sauce itself is a blend of more luxurious ingredients including Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee and Madagascan vanilla and it’s all topped off with 24 karat gold leaf.
If that doesn’t sound amazing enough on its own, feast your eyes on this…

According to Munchies Netherlands, Buik created the burger to celebrate International Hamburger Day and did so specifically with earning a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records in mind.
Buik reckons that the ingredients alone cost £1,000 and that the sale price would be in excess of £2,000. Quite a spicy meatball, as Homer Simpson might say.
The chef says he’s open to making the burger again if he was requested to do so, but he’s not about to go making them in bulk so he can put them on a menu anytime soon.
And while the end product certainly does look tasty, he reckons that it’s not even the tastiest burger he’s ever had, with that honour going to a burger from Byron in London that set him back around £14.
That’s more like our price range. No gold leaf, mind.
