Okayyyy.
It seems like people have been hating on carbohydrates for far too long but hopefully, that’s about to change (albeit very slowly).
There’s this theory that carbs are bad for you and yeah, the refined ones aren’t great but the reality is you need some starch for energy.
Not just any starch though, resistant starch is key and you’ll find it in abundance in unripened bananas*.
Yuri Elkaim, a holistic nutritionist and New York Times bestselling author, shared his top tips for eating the ‘right’ carbohydrates in conversation with She Finds.
“Resistant starch is food for your good bacteria. Your gut is command central, along with your brain, for pretty much everything in your body”.
Yuri explains that eating unripe bananas helps to feed the good bacteria in your gut and this, in turn, will prove effective for your digestive health.
He also recommends beans and lentils, which are filling and they’re also a source of resistant carbs.
Not as appetising as fresh crusty bread to be fair, but look everything in moderation and all that jazz.
*We told you it was random…
